Molly McElwee
An award-winning journalist, author and storyteller from Gibraltar, currently based in Brighton and Barcelona. Molly's work is rooted in sport, culture and women’s stories.



About
Molly was the women’s sports reporter at the Telegraph for five years, and has written for The Guardian, The Observer, Financial Times, BAGEL Magazine, among others, since going freelance in 2024.
She is the author of ‘Building Champions: Pathways to Success in Women’s Tennis’, published in June 2025. The previous year, she launched a Substack newsletter ‘But Do You Actually Like Sport?' which has gained thousands of subscribers since.

Molly has interviewed sports stars including Sir Andy Murray, Billie Jean King, Simone Biles, Rafael Nadal, Mondo Duplantis, Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff.
As well as presenting the YouTube series ‘On Her Shoulders’ for the Billie Jean King Cup and hosting ‘Off The Bench: Women’s Sport Podcast’, Molly has experience in on-camera broadcast interviewing for the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup Finals, as well as serving as a panellist at industry events and on television and radio.

In 2024, Molly won the Tom Perrotta Prize, awarded to a writer aged 35 or under who shows excellence in tennis journalism. Her reporting on abuse in gymnastics and across sport was also highly commended in the Press Gazette’s British Journalism Awards sports category in 2021, and she was shortlisted in categories including news, feature writing and women’s sport coverage at the Sports Journalism Association (SJA) Awards from 2021-2023.

She has a masters in magazine journalism from City St George’s, University of London.
